Article & Conference Paper Indexes

This alphabetical list includes those databases used most by engineering students and faculty. A more complete list of science and engineering databases is available, or consult the individual Engineering Subject Guides.

Please note many resources are restricted to Stanford users as indicated by the  icon.

ACM Digital Library  The ACM Digital Library includes the full text of every article published by ACM, including archives of publications that have been published, co-published, or co-marketed by ACM and other publishers.
AIAA Digital Library   The AIAA Electronic Library contains more than four decades of technical information and documents. Coverage is from 1963 to present and includes meeting papers, conferences, journals, books and standards.
ASCE Research Library  The ASCE Research Library is a comprehensive online tool for locating articles of interest across all disciplines of civil engineering. The Research Library provides access to more than 40,000 full-text papers from ASCE Journals and Proceedings
ASTM Digital Library  The ASTM Digital Library provides access to the digital edition of nearly every ASTM International book and paper spanning 140+ industries and 100+ years. Includes journals, books, standards and special technical publications.
Aerospace & High Technology Database  The Aerospace & High Technology Database indexes and abstracts articles, technical reports, and theses related to aeronautics, astronautics, and associated interests of NASA. Coverage is from 1962 to present. It corresponds to two printed indexes: International Aerospace Abstracts, produced by the AIAA, and Scientific and Technical Aerospace Reports (STAR), produced by NASA. An alternative version of the Aerospace Database is also available on the internet as NTRS: NASA Technical Reports Server.
BIOSIS  BIOSIS indexes and abstracts worldwide literature on all biological and biomedical topics. It is the online equivalent to Biological Abstracts and Biological Abstracts/RRM.
Chemical Abstracts  Chemical Abstracts is a bibliographic database covering worldwide literature from all areas of chemistry, biochemistry, and chemical engineering. Chemical Abstracts monitors over 9,000 journals and includes patents, conference proceedings, technical reports, books, dissertations, and reviews. Access using SciFinder Scholar.
Earthquake Engineering Abstracts  A comprehensive collection of abstracts and citations of world literature relevant to earthquake engineering and earthquake hazards mitigation. Publications covered include technical journals, reports, books, codes and conference proceedings.
Engineering Index (Compendex)  Engineering Index (also known as Compendex) is a comprehensive bibliographic database of engineering research containing over nine million references and abstracts from over 5,000 engineering journals, conferences and technical reports.Online coverage is from 1884 to the present. Approximately 500,000 new records are added to the database annually from over 175 disciplines and major specialties within engineering.
Environmental Sciences and Pollution Management Databases  Environmental Sciences and Pollution Management Databases consists of thirteen files covering the worldwide literature for the environmental sciences including air, land, water and noise pollution, bacteriology, ecology, toxicology, risk assessment, environmental biotechnology and engineering, waste management, water resources, policies and regulations, and U.S. federal environmental impact statements.
GEOREF  GEOREF is the American Geological Institute's geoscience database containing over 1.5 million records of North America since 1785 and other areas of the world since 1933.
IEEE Xplore  IEEE Xplore is a digital library providing full text access to the world's highest quality technical literature in electrical engineering, computer science, and electronics. IEEE Xplore contains full text documents from IEEE journals, transactions, magazines, letters, conference proceedings, standards, and IET (Institution of Engineering and Technology) publications.
INSPEC  INSPEC is the leading information service providing access to the world's scientific and technical literature in physics, electrical engineering, electronics, communications, control engineering, computers and computing, and information technology.
MathScinet  MathSciNet is a searchable Web database providing access to over 59 years ofMathematical Reviews and Current Mathematical Publications.
Medline  Medline is a database indexing 3,600 journals in the fields of medicine, basic medical sciences including molecular and cellular biology and genetics, as well as allied health. Medline is also available via Ovid, OCLC, and the NLM Gateway
NTIS  NTIS (National Technical Information Service) is a resource for accessing the most recent research sponsored by the United States and select foreign governments. Coverage for NTIS dates back to 1900 and contains over 2 million descriptive summaries regarding papers and titles NTIS has received from the government. Over 60,000 records are added annually.
SciSearch (Science Citation Index)  SciSearch is available on the Web from 1945 to present. SCI provides a unique approach to searching the literature. With a recent article, you typically use the bibliography to go back in time. In a way, the citation index lets you do the reverse. You can take an older article and see who has cited that article since it was published. Additional help is available.

Also available through ISI's Web of Science now part of Web of Knowledge.

SCITOPIA Scitopia.org is a free federated vertical search portal including the publications of 15 scientific societies, patents from the European, Japanese and US patent offices, and full-text documents from the US Dept of Energy. The 15 founding societies are: Acoustical Society of America, American Geophysical Union, American Institute of Physics, American Physical Society, American Society of Civil Engineers, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, American Vacuum Society, ECS, IEEE, Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Institute of Physics Publishing, Optical Society of America, Society of Automotive Engineers, Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics, SPIE.
SPIE Digital Library   The SPIE Digital Library is the most extensive resource available on optics and photonics, providing unprecedented access to more than 230,000 technical papers from SPIE Journals and Conference Proceedings from 1990 to the present. More than 17,000 new research papers are added annually.
Water Intelligence Online  Provides access to reference books, research reports, research papers and conference proceedings covering water, wastewater and related environmental topics. The years of coverage varies by book or journal title. IWA Publishing, the wholly owned subsidiary of the International Water Association (IWA), is a leading supplier of water, wastewater and environmental publications.
