The Music Library is housed in Braun Music Center (near the campus
post office), on the first and basement floors. The Circulation
and Reference desks, the Reference Room (including current periodicals),
staff work spaces, a photocopier, a microform reader/printer, and
computers are on the first floor.
Course reserves, all sound and video recordings, CD-ROMs, microfilm
and fiche, "locked stack" items, and "box collection"
items are shelved behind the Circulation Desk.
The basement houses the book and score stacks, listening carrels,
an audio/video viewing room, assigned study carrels, and an entrance
to the Archive
of Recorded Sound. The basement is accessible by stairs or elevator.
Restrooms, a drinking fountain, and a public telephone are located
just outside the library entrance.
Photocopying
A photocopy machine, accepting $1 and $5 bills, coins, Stanford
CardPlan and vending cards is located in the Reading Room. Copies
are
15¢/page
(cash) or 13¢/page (Stanford
CardPlan or vending card).
A microfilm/fiche reader/printer is located in the Reading Room
alcove. It accepts Stanford CardPlan and vending cards only (not
bills or coins).
Vending cards for the photocopier, computer printer, and microform
reader/printer can be purchased at Meyer
Library and other campus locations. For details on vending
cards, costs, reimbursements, etc., click
here. The bookstore and Tressider Student Union may be able
to provide change for larger currency when they are open.
Students may also use Stanford
epay to add money to their Stanford
CardPlan.
Computers
The library has five computer terminals. All computers can access
Socrates, the library's online catalog. Three of the computers require
a Stanford
University Network ID (SUNeT ID) to log on, for full access
to all SULAIR
electronic resources; two terminals are available for public
use, and have access to most SULAIR resources.
A networked printer on the first floor serves all five computer
terminals. It accepts Stanford CardPlan and vending cards only;
copies are 10¢/page.
Wireless access for laptops is available throughout
the Music Library. Click
here for detailed information on requirements and configuration.
Two
additional non-networked computers at the foot of the stairs are
equipped with MIDI keyboards and are available to run interactive
music theory and ear-training software, including MacGAMUT (disc
at the Circulation Desk, call number = MCDI 65) and Practica Musica
(installed). These programs allow for individual skill study and
practice in areas such as rhythm and interval recognition, chord
spelling, polyphonic dictation, and more. 1/4"-jack headphones
are available at the Circulation Desk.
Audio & Video
Listening carrels in the basement have turntables, compact disc
and audiocassette players. A room containing a DVD/VHS player,
laserdisc
player, and other audio equipment is available. Headphones are
available at the Circulation Desk. The library contains no audio-
or video-copying
facilities.
