This graphic is from a photograph of an original batik by Paul Nzalamba. Born in Uganda, Paul was exposed to art at an early age as he watched his mother design and make baskets, floor mats, and room dividers. By the time he was in high school, Nzalamba was selling his paintings. He studied the art of batik with Katongole Wasswa, one of East Africa's finest batik artists. At Makerere University he continued to produce batiks while graduating with a B.A. with honors in political science. Nzalamba moved to Los Angeles in 1979 where he continues his work.
