ePADD v4.0 beta 1 released!
We are thrilled to announce the beta release of ePADD v4.0! Read on for more details about this release, as well as updates on community engagement efforts and project staffing.
New Release
ePADD v4.0 beta introduces cross-collection entity search via the web-based Discovery module; support for the export of message headers to aid in social network analysis and visualization; and a re-engineered (and improved) regular expression search experience.
The release enables processing archivists to import email archives directly into Processing, without first adding the archive via Appraisal. There are many other improvements and fixes, care primarily of the hard work of Sudheendra and Peter. You can grab the new version and view the complete release notes on Github.
Community Engagement
ePADD appears in a special issue of D-Lib Magazine (May/June 2017). This issue is dedicated to projects supported by IMLS under the National Digital Platform funding priority. See our article: ePADD: Computational Analysis Software Facilitating Screening, Browsing, and Access for Historically and Culturally Valuable Email Collections.
ePADD will be represented at the SAA 2017 session: Building Better Bridges: Strategies and Best Practices for Engaging Archival Communities. The session takes place at 10 AM on Friday, July 28, and will include a series of lightning talks followed by a panel-led discussion that will shine a spotlight on innovative methods and best practices for archival community engagement. Josh will chair the session, and speak about engaging the ePADD user community.
Glynn will be presenting a case study at an upcoming CoSA-NHPRC sponsored symposium, Government Email in an Age of Risk: Preventing Information Loss. The symposium will take place on September 15, at the National Archives & Records Administration in Washington, DC.
Josh will be presenting a paper, demo, and tutorial at iPRES 2017 this September, in Kyoto, Japan.
Staffing Update
We are thrilled to share that Dr. Chinmay Narayan, Assistant Professor of Computer Science, Ashoka University, has joined the ePADD development team! Chinmay's research focuses on interactions of programming languages, logic and formal semantics. During his PhD at the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, he worked in the area of concurrent program verification. Prior to that, he worked in the Siemens Research Lab, Bangalore. We are very glad to welcome Chinmay on board!
Additionally, we are also happy to share that Anshul Mathur, of Bellarmine College Preparatory in San Jose, California, has rejoined ePADD as a summer intern, working on automated suggestions of keywords for lexicons. Anshul also worked as an ePADD intern last year, investigating automated testing. We're very glad to have Anshul with us once again!
