March 22 is World Water Day!  This year's theme, Wastewater, discusses ways to reduce and reuse wastewater.

World Water Day was established on December 22, 1992 when the UN General Assembly adopted the following resolution: A/RES/47/193

Observance of a World Day for Water by member states began on March 22, 1993.  On this day, States are are invited to “devote the Day, as appropriate in the national context, to concrete activities such as the promotion of public awareness through the publication and diffusion of documentaries and the organization of conferences, round tables, seminars and expositions related to the
conservation and development of water resources and the implementation of the recommendations of Agenda 21.”

(Agenda 21 is the UN action plan for sustainable development established at the UNCED Earth Summit Conference held in Rio, 1992, and is currently articluated as the Sustainable Development Goals or SDGs.  Stanford Libraries has a copy the orginal Agenda 21, as well as many other books on Agenda 21.)
