East Asia Library commemorates donation from Dr. Moses Li
At a ceremony held on February 21, 2018, the East Asia Library commemorated Dr. Moses Li's generous donation of a full set of the recently published Wenlan Ge Siku quanshu 文瀾閣四庫全書 in 1599 volumes.
A native of Zhejiang province in China, Dr. Li emigrated first to Hong Kong and then to the United States in the 1960s. Later he earned an MBA and a Ph.D. in international relations from Stanford University. As a successful businessman, social activist, and philanthropist, Dr. Li has generously donated to the East Asia Library and Hoover Institution in recent years. In his remarks, Li described his donation as a fulfillment of Stanford University’s motto: “Die Luft der Freiheit weht” (“the wind of freedom flows”).
Matt Marostica, Associate University Librarian for Public Services and Collection Development, and Jidong Yang, Head of East Asia Library, gratefully accepted Dr. Li’s donations at the ceremony. Michael A. Keller, Stanford University Librarian and Publisher, also wrote a letter to Dr. Li to thank him for his generous gift.
