Bring the library into Canvas

Instructors and Teaching Assistants, this quarter we invite you to bring Stanford Libraries into Canvas. In Canvas, we can provide the information sources your students need in an environment they are familiar with. Here are three simple ways to bring the library into Canvas.

1) Invite a subject specialist

At Stanford Libraries, subject specialists collect information sources (books, journals, datasets, etc.) that support different disciplines of study. In addition to collecting, we provide instruction to help students find and utilize these sources. With the new Canvas librarian role, you can invite a subject specialist to contribute information sources or library instruction directly to your Canvas course site.

2) Embed a guide into a course site

A library guide typically provides instructions for locating information sources on a topic. Stanford Libraries has hundreds of guides, and our subject specialists can work with you to create new guides for your students. Our guides are accessible from the library website, and you can now easily embed a guide directly into a Canvas course site!  

3) Add course reserves

Course reserves are library materials (e-books, chapters, articles, etc.) set aside for an academic course. As an instructor, you can Request Course Reserves. Once materials are on reserve, a link to them automatically appears on the corresponding Canvas course site.
