Over the course of the 2009-2010 academic year, Stanford’s Memorial Church celebrated the 25th anniversary of the majestic Fisk-Nanney organ with a series of recitals by University Organist Robert Huw Morgan. The complete organ works of Johann Sebastian Bach were presented in fourteen recitals, with commentary by Dr. Huw Morgan.
Recently, best-selling author of young adult books Nic Stone emphasized the importance of people reading more than just books about racism, we should also read stories about black people living. In School Library Journal Vanessa Willoughby makes the point that “There is danger in a single story: Rich, multifaceted cultures, communities, and individuals are flattened into a monolith.” Joy can be a radical act, a reclamation of autonomy. Both Ms. Stone and Ms. Willoughby include lists of potential titles to read. Cubberley Education Library has several of the children and young adult titles on these lists. Note: You can now page our books to Green library.
It gives me great pleasure to introduce Andrea (pronounced An-Drey-Yah) Renner, our new Assistant Rare Map Librarian, who actually started on March 9, 2020, one day before we were all sent packing to our homes due to COVID-19 and the soon to follow shelter-in-place order.
Cubberley Education Library has a range of resources for children and adults to continue the discussions and learning of the Juneteenth celebrations and now you can page our materials to Green. The children's books are in paper, but the other guides are for electronic resources. For more guides see our homepage under Topic guides and Children's and young adult books.
It's summer time, there's a pandemic, and we are social distancing. Has there ever been a better time to fall into the pages of a good book? I don't think so! Grab an ice-cold beverage, find a sunny spot (at least six feet away from any other readers), and dive into one of these staff picks from the Li and Ma Science Library and the Terman Engineering Library.
