Stanford Libraries’ annual donor appreciation program on April 7 featured three projects that highlight the research services of our science and engineering libraries. Whether it is freeing data from analog records, facilitating the 3D printing of microscope prototypes, or bringing public health resources to nomadic tribes in southern Ethiopia—they all have one common denominator—Stanford Libraries!
Dimensions is a large citation and abstract database that covers all subject areas and provides free access to citations from research publications. Stanford has a subscription to Dimensions Plus, a fee-based service, that covers millions of research publications connected by more than 1.4 billion citations, supporting grants, datasets, clinical trials, patents, and policy documents.

If you’re in a noisy environment, trying to keep the volume down, or are part of the 466 million people in the world who are deaf or hard of hearing, having captions lets you follow along to whatever content you are watching. Unfortunately, captions aren’t always available for every piece of content.

A major theme emerging from the December 2020 NIH Workshop on Ultra Large Chemistry Databases is the essential role of the IUPAC International Chemical Identifier (InChI) in our ability to link and query across large and diverse chemistry data resources. Therefore, we now seek to bring the chemistry community together for an update on the development of the InChI and a discussion of its use in chemistry, biochemistry, and related research domains. Speakers will report on developments in the InChI field, usage of InChI in their organization, as well as challenges and areas not yet covered by InChI. The virtual workshop is scheduled for three half-days and will include short talks and panel discussions.

An ORCID ID is a persistent identifier that supports your efforts when you change positions, institutions, or even your hame. Your ORCID record enables you to enter information once for reuse multiple times. Because ORCID.org is a non-profit organization, your information is not sold. There is no cost for using ORCID and you control the visibility of your ORCID record. Automatic updates for your new publications can be sent to your ORCID record, making it easier to keep your information current.
On Tuesday September 01, the Stanford Libraries Science and Engineering Group hosted a one-hour information session for new graduate students in the STEM disciplines. The services of the Libraries, and an introduction to the people involved, were on the agenda.
