Access & Circulation

The Hopkins Marine Station Library is located in Pacific Grove about 90 miles from Stanford. The Library is open to all members of the Stanford community and is accessible to people with limited mobility. Holdings are listed in SearchWorks. Users on the main campus who want to borrow books from the collection at Hopkins can use the REQUEST button next to the records in SearchWorks to request materials that are available for loan. To request journal articles only available at Hopkins, click to the MAIN CAMPUS USERS tab and use the top link on the resulting page.

Circulation policies

Circulation of materials is available only to users with a valid Stanford borrower's ID, corporate users with a SUL Science coupon, people who have purchased borrowing privileges, and to users with a University of California Library Reciprocal Services Card. Contact the Privileges Desk at Green Library (650) 723-1492 for information on obtaining a valid borrowers card. For more information, please see the general statement on Borrowing Regulations.

Books and dissertations are subject to RECALL after two weeks if requested by another user. RENEWAL of loans is permitted unless another user is waiting. To renew items, go to SUL's My Account / Circulation Records Web page. Materials may be returned to any library on the main campus, but note that if you return items to Lane Library, your record will not be cleared until the item has been received by the Miller Library at Hopkins Marine Station. This is because Lane Library is on a different computer system. If you return a Hopkins book to Falconer Library, Swain Library, Green Library, etc., then your record will be cleared immediately, and you will not be responsible for the book while it is in transit to Hopkins.
