The Stanford Geospatial Center supports the use of spatial data, methods and technology in research and teaching, at Stanford Univeristy. The SGC provides access to a wide range of resources, including:

- Our Spatial Data Resources LibGuide, with information on how to access services
- The Stanford Geospatial Center Lab, with high-performance workstations, widescreen curved monitors and touchscreen digitizing equipment, is OPEN during regular Branner Earth Sciences Library Hours
- Access to Esri's ArcGIS Software & Cloud Services, through Stanford's ArcGIS.com organizational subscription
- Access to Planet.com's daily multispectral image of the Earth at 3m pixel resolution.
- Access to SimplyAnalytics.com for intuitive creation of spatial datasets from U.S. Census and other authoritative sources

We provide scheduled and on-demand instruction in the fundamentals of GIS, data management, data visualization tools, and spatial analysis. We can also provide customized training for specific disciplines or departments and access to advanced training online.

As the Geospatial Manager at The Stanford Geospatial Center I provide support and collaboration to the Stanford research community in capturing and making sense of the “where” of their work. My work mapping the research interests of scholars has taken me from the beaches of Martha’s Vineyard, to Kurdish Northeastern Syria, to the most remote areas of the Mongolian/Chinese border. An archaeologist by training and a technologist by temperament, I am interested in all aspects of mapping, from the aerial imaging of archaeological sites using kites and balloons, to the development of platforms for the gathering of volunteer geographic information. I have over 20 years of experience using Geographic Information Systems and Geotechnology for research and teaching, with expertise in a broad range of geospatial and supporting software and hardware.

Geospatial Instruction & Reference Specialist
I am the GIS Reference and Instruction Specialist for the Stanford Geospatial Center at Branner Earth Sciences Library. I provide GIS consultation and reference support to Stanford students, staff and faculty. My primary role is facilitating the use and understanding of GIS software, and the application of geospatial science, to help patrons with their research. Much of my time in that role is spent conducting one-on-one consultations, training users on GIS software, finding spatial data, and helping design spatial analysis. In addition to one-on-one consultations I also coordinate and present our ongoing series of workshops in GIS (Introduction to ArcGIS, GIS Data Creation & Management, Spatial Analysis, Google Earth & Google Fusion Tables).
My educational background is in geography and geographic information systems, but a significant part of my proffesional backgroud is in cartography. I have a strong interest in the effective use of design in map making for GIS.
